Our Annual Metropolitan Choristers' Festival
Each fall the Choir School plays host to The Metropolitan Choristers' Festival, which is lead by one of the leading choir trainers in the world. Our guest Music Director leads us in three days of exciting music making which includes lots of singing, challenging new repertoire and great deal of fun! The Festival regularly draws 100 singers! Its a great way to make new friends, improve our skills and learn from one of the world's great choral musicians!
Announcing the Fourth Annual Metropolitan Choristers' Festival
The Fourth Annual Metropolitan Choristers' Festival will take place October 20-22, 2017. We are delighted to announce that our Guest Music Director for this year's Festival will be Loraine Enlow. Loraine joined the staff of St. James' Episcopal Church, NYC at the start of 2015. Loraine holds a double-degree with highest honors from the New England Conservatory of Music for viola performance and music theory. At the Conservatory she studied under Alan Fletcher and Marcus Thompson, and was a teaching assistant at the Conservatory for both keyboard harmony and music theory. While at NEC she studied at Harvard University with David Lewin and at MIT with David Epstein. Her graduate work was at the University of Chicago, where she was a Century Teaching Fellow in ethnomusicology, and also Visiting Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, where her work in Coptic liturgy earned her presentations at conferences worldwide. She has also done post-graduate study in early childhood music education at both the Catholic University of America and the Hartt School of Music, and has served as a national adjudicator for the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She is also the Director of the summer Girl Chorister Course at Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, and an active member of the Board of Trustees for VOICE Charter School.
